About
Corduroy Books is a book and music review site. If there’s any sort of aspiration re: style here, we’re aiming for something like a cross between John Leonard and Martin Levin—we’re aiming to get both deep into books (see: Leonard, J, esp. his Lonesome Rangers) and, of course, since reading’s as fun as just about anything, read as many books as possible (see: Levin, M, who, famously, after a 114-day newspaper strike “marked the occasion by reviewing 38 books at once.”). We’re interested in Big, Important Books both because they’re often good, but also because we want to impress people at parties, just like everybody. However, we’re happy as hell to hang out on sidestreets and find books that should be found by way, way more people, and then we like shouting about those books, getting them seen and read and, hopefully, talked about at parties.
We aim to post at least three books a week. Some weeks will be slower; sometimes we’ll want to leave a certain book at the top of the page for a bit longer. But, on average, it’s three a week.
If you’re a writer or publisher or agent or musician or whoever and want to send us stuff to look at/read/listen to/review, please, by all means, write.
To cover requisite ass: all books are sent gratis by publishers, though I make 0 dollars on this endeavor.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Great collection!
Cheers,
Chanroeun
I’m really excited (and also pissed at myself for the tardiness) to have finally delved into your site, guy.
Loved the 2666 review. I’ll be back frequently.
Hey Wes – love the Minnesota poem. Congrats on winning the City Pages poll
I just finished “Life at These Speeds” on your blog’s recommendation. Good stuff. We signed up for RAGBRAI (I took last summer off after breaking a leg while practically standing still on an Alaskan mountain). Hope to see you, your dad, your baby, your wife, etc there but I’m guessing you’re out for this one.
Best,
Rena (of Rena and Mike) (because you probably know a lot of Rena’s).
